Wrestling is the oldest known martial art. Evidence from antiquity suggests that wrestling was as complex and sophisticated as it is today. There are examples of wrestling and wrestling games in almost every culture. All styles of wrestling derive from the same objectives: to control your opponent, to take them to the ground, and to destroy their resolve to fight. Medieval wrestling texts, present snapshots of wrestling from that era. This workshop will help bridge the gap between theory and pragmatic functionality by providing a context of wrestling as a whole. We will focus on the fundamentals that all wrestling styles have in common while building basic and reliable skills that can be used in medieval and other types of wrestling.
